Activities also encompass the ownership and management of investment property, incorporating property and asset management services.
Frasers Property in Australia has certified over 3.4 million square metres of Green Star space across our communities, and our commitment to reduce carbon has been approved by the global Science-Based Targets initiative. We are also certified by the Australian Government's Climate Active initiative. Frasers Property Australia owns Real Utilities, a licensed Australian energy retailer that owns and manages energy infrastructure within some of our communities with the mission to be greener, cheaper and simpler.
With their pioneering 'A Different Way' strategy, Frasers Property is leading the way on responsible development and has been certified carbon neutral by Climate Active since 2015. In 2020, Frasers Property Australia achieved an Australian-first with the carbon neutral certification of its Build Neutral program for the Minnippi Quarter residential terrace homes in Brisbane.
South Pole worked with Frasers Property Australia to manage the certification of a carbon neutral home program for the Minnippi Quarter terrace homes under the Australian Government Climate Active program. This included measuring all the embodied carbon emissions in the building materials and construction of the homes.
Home buyers at Minnippi Quarter have the opportunity to offset the emissions associated with the construction of their home by opting-in to Frasers Property's Build Neutral initiative - an Australian first in the property industry.
Build Neutral is a key part of Frasers Property's commitment to sustainability, and the continued endeavor to find a better way of conducting business. This includes a focus on not just reducing impacts on the planet and people's lives, but also how these can be enhanced, while leaving the world a better place. This is a group focus between both Frasers Property and their customers, with Build Neutral providing a significant way that customers can contribute towards materially benefiting the global community through the reduction of carbon emissions.
"Frasers Property partnered with South Pole on this 'first of its kind' project due to their industry leading reputation and global experience on solving complex carbon problems. Their support, and ability to find solutions to questions that hadn't been asked before, made the journey both incredibly enjoyable and effective at the same time. The collaboration ultimately resulted in an outcome that exceeds our customers expectations and helps shift the dial on transitioning our industry to net zero carbon"
- Rory Martin, Sustainability Manager, Frasers Property Australia
“The built environment has a critical role to play in limiting global warming and Frasers Property is really taking a leading role. The work they have done with the Minnippi Quarter Build Neutral initiative to measure embodied carbon and engage home buyers on the topic of carbon neutrality is ground-breaking."
- Tara Oakley, South Pole
For the Minnippi Quarter development, Frasers Property Australia supports a native forest regeneration project in Queensland and a forest protection project in Zimbabwe.
In recent decades, Zimbabwe has suffered from political and economic turbulence. With limited economic opportunities, desperate communities have delved deeper into the forests, clearing it for subsistence farming and fuelwood. More than a third of Zimbabwe's majestic forests have been lost. Creating further instability for people with already precarious livelihoods.
Vast areas of Australia are grazed by livestock and overrun with feral animals, such as goats and pigs. While livestock grazing is an important economic activity for rural Australia, it can suppress forest growth as tree saplings are often damaged or eaten by stock before they can grow. However, leaving land to regenerate means sacrificing agricultural production and hence income for landholders.
