Powering China’s southwest with clean wind energy

Powered endlessly by the prevailing winds of southwestern China, this wind farm supplies clean energy to the Guangxi Province electricity grid. Local infrastructure is enhanced and the renewable energy industry in the region is given a boost.

The Context

China is a vastly populated country that is experiencing accelerated expansion and development. Due to a heavy reliance on fossil fuel energy sources, there is an increasing need for alternative energy solutions that do not produce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Project

The Guangxi Wind project in China's southwest consists of 24 turbines with a total installed capacity of 48 MW. These wind turbines turn endlessly to generate renewable wind energy, which is supplied to the Guangxi Power Grid where it displaces thermal plants running on coal, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving regional air quality.

The Benefits

Now, less fossil fuel is burnt to meet electricity requirements in the Guangxi area, and regional water resources that would otherwise be used by coal-fired power plants are instead conserved. The project also created local employment during its construction phase and built around 19 km of roads to service surrounding communities.
