Saving Women's Time through Distribution of Biogas Digesters and Stoves
In the Kavre and Sindhuli Districts of rural Nepal, women spend over two hours a day to gather wood from the forests and chop it for cooking and heating.
Biogas digesters and stoves provide a clean and renewable energy source reducing deforestation. Freeing women from this time-consuming and labour-intensive task enables them to spend time on increasing their income, learning new skills, growing additional crops, caring for children and the elderly, improving their health, supporting and taking on leadership roles in their community or benefitting from rare leisure time.
Verified output: time saved
1 biogas digester saves 136 min/day or 830 hr/year
These biogas digesters will save women 2.8 million hours over the life of the project
Verified output: income
