Swiss Ambassador launches CapaCITIES project with hand-over of E-Rickshaws in Udaipur
In a formal ceremony, the Swiss Ambassador to India and the Mayor of Udaipur handed over the keys for 14 E-Rickshaws to underprivileged drivers (handicapped or below the poverty line) selected by a lottery. These e-rickshaws are the first of 12 quick-win measures in the waste, transport and building sectors under the CapaCITIES project. The CapaCITIES project runs from 2016 to 2019 and builds capacity on low-carbon and climate-resilient development in 4 Indian cities (Udaipur, Rajkot, Coimbatore, Siliguri). It is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and implemented by South Pole Group (lead contractor), Econcept and ICLEI South Asia. In the project, South Pole Group is responsible for financial management, GHG scenarios, project finance expertise and sectoral training.
