Die Lösung

The processing of crude palm oil from fresh palm fruit bunches (FFB) produces large amounts of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) with high organic matter. The mill has a processing capacity of 384,000 tons of FFB.. Each tonne of FFB processed results in approximately 0.65 m3 of POME produced . The aim of the project activity is to capture anthropogenic methane emissions from the Palm Oil Mill anaerobic effluent treatment system and utilize the methane gas to generate renewable energy.

Die Auswirkungen

This circular production is both environmentally sound and cost-effective. It reduces reliance on fossil-fuel-dominated electricity; while treating the wastewater as well as providing clean energy and fertiliser that can be reused. For the community, training opportunities are created, boosting economic development, whilst capturing harmful gases improves air quality and nasty odours.
