The theatre Pablo Tobon Uribe in Medellin played host to the launch of the Low Carbon Cities Forum yesterday, on the 16th of December. Convening experts from, among others, the Alliance Francaise de Development, the World Resources Institute, the Latin American Development Bank, the University of Antioquia and the Andes, and South Pole Group.
Chain Carlos Gaitan, from the Green City collective, the organisation responsible for the Low Carbon Cities initiative, stressed that the event was "a key forum for citizens seeking seeking to catalysen social mobilisation for the creation of a Low Carbon Cities collective." He added that the main conclusions of the event will be used as input for reflection and debate at the Habitat III conference, to be held in Quito, Ecuador.
"We risk placing our rural landscapes under threat if cities do not take action to reduce their emissions," said Victor David Giraldo, Head of Implementation, Forest & Land Use Projects, South Pole Group, participating in one of the panel discussions.
