25th August, Bengaluru, India - South Pole and 3eco Systems have partnered to launch India's first carbon credit programme for 3-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs). The programme, registered under the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), uses transformative carbon finance to incentivise and accelerate the shift to e-mobility in India, where decarbonising road transport emissions will be critical to meeting the country's climate targets.
Peter Voelkner, Managing Director of 3eco, said “The world is urbanising at a pace and scale never seen before, and India is no exception. Companies are having to find effective ways to deliver to customers living in busy city centres, to establish “hyper-local" connectivity for their transport and delivery systems. 3eco has been at the forefront of addressing this real-world demand for affordable greentech vehicles, drawing on our data-centric approach and commitment to sustainability across all aspects of our business model. We are extremely proud to be partnering with South Pole to accelerate our mission, and to find further ways to encourage the shift towards clean 3-wheeled vehicles ."
"Smart, sustainable mobility plays a big role in helping the world transition towards a net zero future – not least in rapidly urbanising places like South Asia, which also has the highest use of 2–3-wheelers in cities. We are proud to be working with 3eco on this first-of-a-kind programme in India, drawing on our award-winning carbon project development expertise to help channel finance towards greening the 3-wheeler fleets of e-commerce giants," says Aude Perrine, Director Sourcing, Renewables and Sustainable Technologies at South Pole.
As part of this collaboration, South Pole will assess and validate the emission reductions achieved by 3eco Systems' fleet, which is India's largest dedicated fleet of class L-5 3-wheel EVs serving enterprise customers such as Amazon, Big Basket, Flipkart and Decathlon.
3eco Systems currently operates in five cities – Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Coimbatore & Mumbai – with plans to enter eight new cities in the coming 12 months and to expand its consumer and value-added services business, while growing its fleet from 500 to 2,000+.
