Cleaner cooking with Wanrou cookstoves
In northern Benin, communities in Copargo, Natitingou, and Boukoumbé rely heavily on firewood and traditional cooking methods. This places strain on local forests and soils, while exposing women and children to smoke indoors. The Efficient cookstoves in Benin and Togo - VPA 3-4 - EcoBenin - Women, Soils and Energy project addresses these overlapping challenges through improved energy solutions.

This project expands the distribution of Wanrou efficient cookstoves to over 3,000 rural households. These stoves are designed to match local cooking customs while improving energy efficiency.
The GS2489 Efficient cookstoves in Benin and Togo - VPA 3-4 - EcoBenin - Women, Soils and Energy aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions by reducing demand for non-renewable biomass. It hopes to preserve forest ecosystems and enhance soil stability in the Atacora region. Over time, women may benefit from improved indoor air quality and reduced time spent collecting firewood, allowing for safer, healthier daily life.
