Improving cookstove efficiency to reduce emissions and the demand for charcoal
Across Northern and Eastern Uganda, charcoal is widely used as fuel for cooking. Not only does using charcoal release greenhouse gases, but the reliance on this fuel has led to increased rates of deforestation and land degradation.

This project uses ECO SMART single-pot charcoal stoves to replace inefficient cookstoves. These efficient stoves have an above-average thermal efficiency at 37%.
These efficient cookstoves decrease the amount of charcoal needed, directly impacting the community as it improve air quality by reducing smoke and emissions and reduces the amount of expensive charcoal needed. This reduction has also helped show down land degradation and deforestation in the area.
