Saint Nikola Wind Farm

Harnessing wind power to boost Bulgaria’s renewable future

Bulgaria
Saint Nikola Wind Farm

Despite its growing vulnerability to extreme weather and thus the climate crisis, Bulgaria continues to depend largely on fossil fuels, in particular coal. Struggling to kick-start its energy transition, solar and wind power made up only 1.7% of the country’s total energy consumption each in 2021, and around 3% each of electricity generation. Transitioning to renewables is an absolute necessity for Bulgaria to safeguard it's future from a social, economic and environmental perspective.
