Knauf Group sought to enhance transparency regarding the environmental impact of its products. To achieve this, South Pole provided deep technical collaboration. We utilised the data Knauf provided to build a model, validating the assumptions used in the model with their team. This technical support helped Knauf refine its internal workflow and establish a reliable pipeline for environmental data, ensuring every assessment met strict international standards before publication.
Efficiency was key to handling Knauf's diverse portfolio. We developed two master Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models tailored to their specific production needs. These models serve as the foundation for generating consistent data. By standardising the methodology, Knauf can now produce reliable Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) more efficiently, reducing the time and complexity previously required for individual product assessments.
The collaboration has transformed how Knauf approaches environmental disclosure. With a robust internal process in place, the company has successfully published more than 10 EPDs validated by third parties. This capability allows Knauf to meet increasing regulatory requirements and customer demand for sustainable building materials, solidifying their position as a responsible leader in the construction industry.
