Join our panel of experts to understand how different organisations and companies are evolving their operations to halt and reverse forest destruction. And, what you can do as a consumer to support these efforts.
Forests' role in the climate crisis is two-fold, increasing rates of deforestation act as a cause, while planting more trees can be a powerful solution. But in the global response to the climate emergency, we feel that our mighty forests, big and small, are not getting the attention (or the investment) that they deserve!
The world lost more than one football pitch of forest every second in 2017, a total loss of 29.4m hectares, the second highest recorded since the monitoring began in 2001. Agriculture is by far the biggest driver, responsible for around 80% of deforestation worldwide.
To protect our forests, we must look hard at the food we eat and the products we buy.
Some of the world's biggest consumer brands have pledged to eliminate deforestation by 2020, primarily through the sustainable sourcing of four commodities most linked to forest destruction: soya, palm oil, paper and cattle. With just one year left to meet this target what actions have been taken? And why does it matter?
To celebrate the very first London Climate Action Week, South Pole and our partners will unpick the risks and opportunities that are driving organisations to tackle the climate crisis. We will examine the inspiring action being taken across the board, including Nature-Based Solutions, net-positive impacts, sustainable supply chains, public awareness and much more.
