This project is offering an affordable solution by bringing locally-made efficient stoves to households. The Himalayan Rocket Stoves need less than half the amount of firewood than cookstoves that are traditionally being used throughout the region. The stoves that are being produced in the Himalayas are distributed to those most in need including families, schools, monasteries and nunneries.
By reducing the amount of firewood needed for cooking and heating, these clean burning stoves simultaneously ease pressure on local forests and cut GHG emissions. Additionally, the stoves reduce toxic levels of pollution in homes, thus having a direct impact on the health of communities, in particular of women and children who are often the most affected.
