Harnessing coastal wind to power Vietnam with clean energy
Vietnam has experienced a rapid increase in the demand for electricity fueled by economic growth over the past two decades. However, with demand outpacing the current supply, electricity shortages and regular power cuts are negatively affecting the economy and local livelihoods.

The Bac Lieu wind farm involves 62 wind turbines installed in two phases. The project aims to generate clean electricity, fed into the national grid. It hopes to bridge the supply-demand electricity gap, and is an important investment for Vietnam's renewable energy supply strategy.
The Bac Lieu project seeks to create employment opportunities for the operation of the wind farm and to support the local community by funding social activities such as sports and cultural events. The project also contributes to charity funds such as Fund for the Poor and Fund for Farmers, which hopes to improve services in surrounding areas; while the tree planting activities promote regional biodiversity. The success of the project would help boost Bac Lieu's provincial economy, as it contributes to an annual tax payment to the local and State budget. Finally, the project also paves the way for similar wind power projects in the region, while the upgraded transmission line reduces electricity losses and enhances local supply.
