E.Leclerc partnered with South Pole to build a shared climate vision for its network of stores. By establishing an emissions baseline and setting science-based targets with a robust roadmap
E.Leclerc sought to unify its diverse retail activities (food, textile, energy, travel, rental) under a single, science-based decarbonisation strategy. This required establishing an SBTi-compliant emissions baseline across all entities, mobilising store owners, and ensuring alignment with commercial

consolidated brand-wide decarbonisation roadmap
validated science-based target framework
South Pole consolidated E.Leclerc's decentralised GHG emissions data and guided the development of science-based targets, aligning 799 stores behind a cohesive, low-carbon future.
We defined ambitious, science-aligned emission reduction targets across all sectors (food products, non food products, energy, etc.), including for Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) emissions. To ensure long-term success, we facilitated executive briefing sessions that secured full board-level buy-in. The project culminated with the successful validation of these targets by the SBTi.
We contributed to the establishment of a common framework for E.Leclerc entities, supported by new data governance, to harmonize reporting across all operational units. This approach ensures consistent accounting of GHG emissions and provides E.Leclerc with a transparent system to track progress toward its climate commitments.
The SBTi validation transforms our ambition into an operational roadmap: reducing our emissions by 50% by 2035.
Harmonizing data from 799 stores across 6 countries was a major technical challenge, but essential for managing our action levers: a 63% reduction in scopes 1 and 2, the massive commitment of our suppliers, and the mobilization of our customers to act on our scope 3. This ensures the effective management of our entire value chain. E.Leclerc now has concrete tools to accelerate our long-standing environmental commitment.
