Mauricio Mira Pontón is South Pole's Regional Director of Climate Policy, Finance and Carbon Markets, focusing on Latin America. With 20 years of experience, Mauricio has served as an advisor and analyst of financial markets, and as a consultant for the United Nations Program for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for more than 15 years. In addition, he served as Head of the Green and Sustainable Business Office at the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia, where he focused on the design and implementation of economic instruments, including the creation of the Colombian carbon price. He also held the office of Colombia's Deputy Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development.
Mauricio holds a bachelor's degree in Business and a master's in Leadership Strategy for Sustainability at the Blekinge-Sweden Technological Institute (BTH).
